The meeting will be held in November, 2012 in NE Iowa.  If you would like to help sponsor an even, or host an event prior or after the meeting, please contact us to be a part of the session planning and to help coordinate our 2012 meeting.

Join the Iowa Food Systems Council Friday, November 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Iowa Arboretum near Madrid to celebrate their one-year anniversary. The Iowa Food Systems Council board of directors will summarize their first year of activity as well as their future plans. Members will have the opportunity to provide input on the direction of the IFSC. Mark Winne, who was instrumental in developing the Connecticut Food Policy Council in 1997, the first state food policy council in the country, will speak on how to create an effective food council.

Mark Winne is the co-founder of numerous food and agricultural food policy groups. He is also the author of several books highlighting food policy and sustainability within food systems. Copies of Mark’s most recent book, Food Rebels, Guerrilla Gardeners, and Smart-Cookin' Mamas: Fighting Back in an Age of Industrial Agriculture, will be available to purchase at the meeting. The Iowa Food Systems Council is currently at an important stage of development, moving beyond organizational process towards action-oriented and deliverable services. Mark will offer important insights and direction for the Iowa Food Systems Council’s board and members.

No pre-registration is needed, and the meeting is free to attend. Registration for the meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served. Attendees will have the opportunity to join the Council and vote for open board slots for the upcoming year. They will also be able to provide input on what they want the Council to accomplish to better the state of Iowa’s food system.
